CEENGINE NRENs Users Workshop - 22nd May 2013 in Kiev

CEENGINE NRENs Users Workshop will take place on 22nd May 2013 in Kiev, Ukraine.

The event - co located with Infoday on ICT in Horizon 2020 is a must for any researcher looking for face-to-face meeting with managers of advanced EU e-Infrastructure projects, with the objective for future research collaboration.

Due to space limitations the participants of the workshop will be selected from pre-registered candidates. There is a potential for reimbursement of travel costs for selected participants from Eastern Europe.

What is CEENGINE?

CEENGINE project aims at enforcing ad stimulating Central and Eastern European Networking Association (CEENet) activities related to the creation, incubation and development of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) inCentral, Eastern, Southern Europe and Central Asia.

With the support of EU in the form of CEENGINE project, it is expected that the Association engages more intensively and aggressively in supporting and developing NRENs in the areas which are both complementary to and enabling towards GEANT3.

 

Oliver Popov nominated to "Hall of Fame" advisory board

The Internet Society today announced the addition of eight international Internet leaders to the 2013 Internet Hall of Fame Advisory Board.  The Internet Hall of Fame honors leaders and luminaries who have made significant contributions to the development and advancement of the global Internet. The Advisory Board is comprised of a highly-qualified, international panel of individuals with expertise spanning many segments of the industry and related areas, including computer scientists, software engineers, Internet developers, historians, executives, authors, researchers, academia, and journalists. The Advisory Board has a critical role in selecting the inductees for the 2013 Internet Hall of Fame. New to the Internet Hall of Fame Advisory Board in 2013:

  • Dr. Andreu Veà, WiWiW.org Founder and Director; Special IT Counselor to Barcelona and Catalonia Government; President of Internet Society Spain Chapter
  • Dr. Hessa Sultan Al Jaber, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology, ictQATAR
  • Grace Chng, Senior correspondent for The Straits Times and leading technology writer in Singapore
  • Raúl Echeberría, Executive Director of LACNIC, the Regional Internet Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean; Internet Society Board of Trustees
  • Hartmut Glaser, Executive Secretary of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee
  • Katie Hafner, Journalist and author of six books, including Where Wizards Stay Up Late: The Origins of the Internet
  • Dr. C.L. Liu, Professor at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan
  • Dr. Oliver Popov, Professor of Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University

CEENet becomes a partner in GEANT

Following the recent developments of CEENGINE related to surveying GEANT model and services in our geographical area, CEENet has formulated a work programme for Eastern Europe to be realized within being formed GN3+ project. This proposal received much attention in GEANT and after negotiations with project stakeholders it was agreed that CEENet shall participate in GN3+ project as a third party partner  to TERENA. The scope of work for CEENet will include:

  • Tailor-Made Support to EU NRENs in Advancing Economies (Digital Inclusion)
  • Campus best practice adoption in Eastern Europe

Some remaining activities proposed by CEENet were (due to limited scope of GEANT) considered as to be realised if additional funding sources are identified and these include

  • Implementation and dissemination of edu* services.
  • User communities needs assesment report.

We are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration with GEANT!
